1. Self introduction
My name is Koki Mashimo. I’m from Gunma. I’m 2nd year university student. I’m in Gunma university. I’m major in Japanese. I’ve studied English for 9 years. I want to be a Japanese teacher. Because I respect the Japanese teacher who teached me Japanese in high school. I was not good at Japanese. So I didn’t like Japanese. But I became to like Japanese through his class. His teaching was easy to understand Japanese. I want to be a PE teacher before I meet him. But I want to be a Japanese teacher like him after I meet him. I study about education in university now.
2. Explanation of my theme
The theme of this book is to express my experience of English and explain to have a change of heart through the experience of English. I have studied English for 9 years. Among them, I meet many people who relate to English; teacher, foreigner, people who like English. I see the connection that many experience that influence my English write on. I am not good at English. But I like English. When I meet foreigners. I try to make conversation with their positively. Thanks to through the experiences I have ever experienced. I owe what I am today to the experiences.
1. Mr.Wakayama
This poem describes a moment I met Mr.Wakayama in junior high school. He is an English teacher. He is about 70 years old. He was awesome because he is never get angry. But the students listened to what he say. He has the ability to fascinate people. His class is interesting. And I can increase the knowledge of English. I became to like English through his class. His teaching was easy to understand English. I have no words to express my gratitude.
2. Stay with host family
When I was junior high school student. I stayed with host family in America. Before I go to America, I was so nervous. But my host family was very kind. So I became to be relieved. My host family take me to many places. Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and so on. I remember to go fishing the best. So I write about it. The experience that I stayed with host family is very important for me.
3. Cram school teacher
I teach English to many junior high school students as a cram school teacher now. This is an important experience for me. That is because I must teach in a way that students can easily understand the content. I have to teach like that. But actually, I learn many things that are important things about education from students. How to teach, how to talk, how to make them laugh. I want to be a teacher so this is a necessary experience for me to be a teacher.
4. Talk to an ALT
My first challenge to talk to an ALT when I was elementary school student. I remember the moment clearly because the moment changed the way of my thinking about English. The ALT’s name is Mr.Brown. He is taller than me by twenty centimeters. I thought he is scared at first. And I was shy. So I couldn’t talk to him. I said only “Ah…yes.” But he was kind. He taught me importance of communication. I came to talk well little by little. One day, I had a opportunity to talk with foreigner.
5. Asked for directions by foreign people
This is when I was junior high school student. One day, I was walking the way to my house with my friend. We were asked for directions by foreign people. I was so surprised. So I couldn’t answer well. But my friend could tell him. His English was a little halting. But, foreign people understood his English. I’m frustrated that I can’t speak English. This is the moment I decided to study English more. After a while, I was asked for directions by foreign people again. Result is …
6. Get a bad score in English test
When I was junior high school student, I got a bad score in English test. I became bad feelings. I was frustrated that things don’t go as planned. My teacher said me some words. “Take it easy. Don’t worry.” Those words made me fine. I decided to study English harder. After that, I can get a perfect score. I learned that making an effort is very important and the power of words. And since that time, my motto is “Take it easy.” This word make me fine whenever I make a mistakes.
7. Perfect Score in English test
When I was junior high school student, I got a perfect score in English test. Before that, I got a bad score in English test. So I made an effort. This experience taught me importance of effort. This is the moment that I decide to study English more. So I studied English more. I studied in 1st year junior high school. I studied in 2nd year junior high school. I studied in 3rd year junior high school. As a result, I could pass the first-choice. I think my success of the examination was due to this efforts.
8. Watch the Harry Potter
When I was junior high school student, I watched the Harry Potter first. At the beginning, I watched the Harry Potter in Japanese. I watched the Harry Potter more than I can count. One day, I watched the Harry Potter in English because my cousin who is six years older said me to watch the Harry Potter in English. He was major in English at university. So he could understand almost all. But I can’t understand almost all. I thought I should study English more.
9. First learn English
When I was elementary school student, I studied English first. It was so easy. For example, study alphabet, study easy English sentences. I felt English is fun. I became to like English. But English became difficult little by little. Studying English in high school is so difficult for me. Complicated grammar, a lot of English vocabulary that I should memorize, many idiom…. But English is very important because increasing globalization in the world. An opportunity that interact with foreigners is increasing. I must speak to foreigner. I felt I must make an effort.
10. International Events
When I was junior high school student, I participated in international event. First, I was surprised by how many people there were. There are more than one hundred people. But I was getting used to it. And I became able to speak with foreigner. American people, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and so on. It was a good time. Through this experience, I learn how to communication, different cultures, importance of smile. I feel I want to study English more.
